Theme: Language and Translations

Ortodoksia Vol. 57 invites proposals addressing questions concerning liturgical language and translations in the past and the present. Possible topics include:

  • Sacred language vs. vernacular
  • The development and publication of Orthodox liturgical texts in Finnish
  • Problems of translating sacred texts
  • Language and nationality in the Church

As context, proposals may also note the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s Reformation or the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Finland. 

Ortodoksia welcomes proposals for scientific articles, reports and addresses, research reviews and book reviews. Manuscripts, written in Finnish, Swedish or English, should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief (see below) by 1 February 2017. Scientific articles will be peer-reviewed. The new journal will be launched on 26 September 2017 at the annual meeting of the Finnish Orthodox Clergy Association. It will also be available (open access) on Ortodoksia’s forthcoming website.

The length of a peer-reviewed article is 45,000–60,000 character (with spaces). A summary of 3,000 characters (not included in the total) must be included in the manuscript. Maximum length for a research review is 25,000 characters, 20,000 characters for a report or address, and 4,000 characters for a book review.
